Part two of my review of the action classic, True Lies(1994) starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Arnold, Bill Paxton, Tia Carrere, Art Malik, Eliza Dushku, Grant Heslov, and Charlton Heston. Directed by James Cameron. Trivia In an early version of the script, Harry discovers Dana ditching school to sing in her boyfriend’s band. While Harry drives Dana back to school, they sing the song she was doing (“Sunshine of Your Love” by Cream) when he walked in on her. Both scenes were cut from the movie. Instead, you can faintly hear the song playing on Dana’s Walkman in the scene before her boyfriend picks her up for school. Many problems plagued the shooting of the opening sequence: the mansion scene was filmed on an extremely cold night and the mansion itself was not heated; all of the women wore dresses with nothing underneath and a costume change room was set up outside in the cold; kerosene lamps were used to heat the tents; one of the extra’s blouses caught fire. For their suffering through the harsh cold that night, the extras were paid an additional $50. A full scale model of a Harrier was built for all close shots of Arnold Schwarzenegger flying the plane; it was puppeteered from a crane on a nearby building which was painted out with CGI. (As the Harrier lands in the street, dust and debris stirred up by its jetblast is all done in CGI; the CGI blast swirls up a CGI piece of paper which is sucked into the Harrier’s CGI air compressor fan) The …

I found this guy in a jar of pond water sent to me by a friend in Tennessee. I have had him for about a week and seen him swimming around in there, but was unable to catch him with a pipette. Today, I used a white ice cube tray to pour out some of the water from the jar into about half the cube sections. I could not see if I had got him poured out until I put the tray under my Nikon Stereo scope and checked, and sure enough, he was in the first section. Being in a much smaller area made it easy to suck him into the pipette. I used a 5ml pipette with a short piece of aquarium air hose attached to the end of the tube. This was enough to get him pulled up, then I transferred him to a slide with a depression in it. Because of his size, quite large enough to see with the naked eye, there was no need to use a coverslip. I have no idea what he is, or if it is even an air breathing insect larvae. I am beginning to think it is some sort of water animal that will not change into a bug, but stay in water his whole life. If you know his name, please let me know.
